Leland has worked with BCBS Health Plans, Optum, physician groups, health service businesses and private equity firms. The engagements focus on creating a range of capabilities and products suited to help self-funded employers and health plans contract and align around at-risk contracts with specialist physicians for value-based care. The work centers on helping engaged physicians reengineer care delivery systems to increase the value provided to patients, payers and health care providers. Leland also helps physician group boards of directors perform well and continually improve board effectiveness.

Blue Chip Surgical Center Partners, LLC (Cincinnati, Ohio)

2005 - 2016 | Founder and Chief Executive Officer

A venture capital-backed, de novo venture, specializing in high acuity procedures such as outpatient spine surgery. Created twenty-two ambulatory surgery center joint venture businesses, of which most were de novo start-ups, with several acquisitions; all joint venture surgery center businesses included surgeon partners. Blue Chip Surgical provided a full, turn-key solution responsible for forming the LLC, organizing the partnerships, financing the projects, arranging for the facilities to be designed and built, then recruiting and training the staff and managing the businesses. The surgery center businesses were sold to a variety of different organizations during 2015 and 2016.

Advocate Health Care (Chicago, Illinois)

1996 - 1998 | Chief Executive Officer, Advocate MSO, Executive Director, Advocate Medical Group

Chicago-wide, church related, integrated health care delivery system comprised of eight acute care hospitals with over 3,000 beds, 22,000 employees, two large medical groups and a full complement of nursing home, home health and other ancillary/ambulatory businesses.

As Executive Director for Advocate Medical Group (AMG), was responsible for group operations, recruiting, information systems, strategic planning, business development and financial management. As Chief Executive of the MSO, responsible for managed care operations, which provided administrative support to eight PHOs (200,000 lives) within the Advocate System.

First Generation Accountable Care Business 

1993 - 1995 | President

A venture capital-supported start-up physician practice-management company; managed care-oriented, developing and managing full-risk primary care medical groups in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Illinois. Acquired by United HealthCare.

Responsible for the startup and operations of the medical groups in Ohio.

Western Ohio Health Care Corporation (Dayton, Ohio)

1984 - 1992 | Chief Executive Officer and Board Member

An IPA model HMO with a network of 1,700 physicians providing managed care services to 300,000+ individuals. Western Ohio also operated a large staff-model mental health counseling service and a unique Medicaid HMO. Western Ohio was acquired by United HealthCare.

Lucas Sensing Systems, a subsidiary of Lucas Industries plc (Birmingham, England)

1989 - 1992 | President and Board Member

A British engineering and manufacturing company headquartered in Birmingham, England, serving global aerospace, automotive and industrial markets.

Managed a group of Lucas Industries businesses in the United States, Europe and joint ventures in the Far East. Products included position sensors, accelerometers, actuators, pressure transducers, switches and electronic controls.

Ledex Incorporated (Dayton, Ohio)

1971 - 1989 | Chief Executive Officer and Board Member

Ledex is an engineering and vertically integrated manufacturer of high performance solenoids, actuators, switches, optical encoders and electronic controls. Ledex was acquired by Lucas Industries, plc.
